The redesigned Finnish Web Archive can now be used on legal deposit workstations

Date published

The user interface of the Finnish Web Archive has been redesigned in terms of both content and appearance. Users can now search and explore not only the webpages, but also the tweets and videos available in the web archive, taking into account the the special features of both types of material. Tweets have been saved in thematic web harvests since 2015, and through continuous Twitter harvesting since late 2020. Video materials have been harvested throughout the history of the Finnish Web Archive, since 2008.Ā

The redesign included an update to the visual appearance of the archive and improvements in the accessibility of the user interface.

Links included in the thematic web harvests have been added to the public directory of the archive, whereas the materials themselves are available under the Copyright Act, on the legal deposit workstations at all legal deposit libraries throughout Finland as well as at the Library of Parliament and the library of the National Audiovisual Institute.

Next, we will improve the indexing of the Finnish Web Archive in order to promote findability of contents and to improve seach results.
