Work on the complete critical edition Jean Sibelius Works began in 1996. The aim of the project is to publish Sibelius’s entire oeuvre in editions based on a thorough study of the sources. The project is founded on a text-critical survey that will facilitate the most accurate reading possible of the genesis and early history of the compositions, as well as of the musical texts, following an exhaustive study and evaluation of various musical and literary sources.

JSW publishes all Sibelius’s compositions as revised editions based on thorough research, each with a Critical Commentary shedding light on the musical text and an Introduction dealing with the work's history. The complete Jean Sibelius Works is projected to comprise approximately 60 volumes, the last ones appearing in 2035.

The latest publication includes all four of Sibelius’s String Quartets.

The new website offers information about the project’s publications, its organization, its history, and the editors.
