New e-resources for medieval scientists in Helsinki University network
Brill's Medieval Reference Library Online offers online access to the following reference works in the medieval studies of European history and culture, c. 500-c. 1500:
- Encyclopedia of Medieval Pilgrimage (2009)
- Encyclopedia of the Medieval Chronicle (2010, with 2016 update)
- Encyclopaedia of Medieval Dress and Textiles of the British Isles c. 450-1450 (2012, with 2016 update)
- Brill's Encyclopaedia of the Middle Ages (NEW, September 2016)
You can find research about the architecture, art, economy, history, historiography, language, law, literature, material culture, music, religion, spiritual life, and science of the Middle Ages, from four Brill encyclopedias.
Fully searchable: users can search across all four encyclopedias within the reference library, or limit their search to just one (via A-Z browsing or word search); advanced search options also available.
The usage of databases is restricted to Helsinki University students, faculty, staff and the local users in the National Library and in the Helsinki University libraries. The university staff and students may also use the electronic materials remotely outside the university. For remote connections, see: Remote access. Non-Helsinki University users can use e- resources by getting a guest authentication account from staff at library information desks.

Ut per litteras apostolicas - Papa letters – online (LITPA) represents an electronic version of the Registres et lettres des Papes du XIIIe siècle (32 vols.: Rome, 1883-) and the Registres et lettres des Papes du XIVe siècle (48 vols.: Rome, 1899-). In addition, it contains a large amount of unpublished material. (litterae communes of Gregory XI from 1371 to 1375 and the registers of petitions of Urbain V).
It provides online the complete collection of papal letters from the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries.
The usage of databases is restricted to Helsinki University students, faculty, staff and the local users in the National Library and in the Helsinki University libraries.
