Elektra and Peri+ have been fee-based services produced by the National Library of Finland and Kopiosto. Material contained by them has been widely used, for example, in universities and public libraries.

The National Library of Finland will organise a Finnish-language webinar on the termination of the services on Tuesday, 13 December 2022 at 10.00–11.00. The webinar Elämää Elektran ja Peri+:n jälkeen (‘Life after Elektra and Peri+) is open to all interested in the subject and aims to provide participants with advice on how to access Finnish scholarly journals after the turn of the year. The webinar programme (in Finnish only) and link to the registration form are available on the webinar homepage.

Currently, Elektra features over 40,000 articles from dozens of Finnish scholarly journals. The articles are mainly from 1996–2020. Many of the journals included in the service have transferred or are transferring their material to the Journal.fi service maintained by the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies.

In the future, Peri+’s material will be usable in both legal deposit libraries and many other organisations based on the Tutkain agreement.

The background behind the decision to abolish the services has also been presented in the article “Kun Elektrasta aika jättää” (‘Life after Elektra’, in Finnish only) published in the Tietolinja online magazine, issue 1/2020.
