The newspaper clipping collections of the National Collection include primarily newspaper clippings about a variety of topics. Newspaper clippings are divided in three groups according to their content:
- newspaper clippings on Finland, which mostly comprises articles on Finland published in international newspapers.
- topic-specific newspaper clipping collections contain, for example, many clippings from international newspapers on the Winter War.
- private individuals' newspaper clipping collections contain articles by or on private individuals.
There are clippings both from international (such as American, French, German and English) and Finnish newspaper. The majority of newspaper clipping collectiosn are from the first part of the 1900s.
Some of the materials are in very poor condition and consequently use limitations apply to them.

Newspaper clipping collections have largely been formed by collection of private individuals or various organisations and they have been received as donations. Some clipping collectiosn have also been ordered from clipping services or they have been traded in from international libraries.
