Collection description

The music archives are a part of the Manuscript Collection and they contain materials from composers and musicians working in Finland: music manuscripts, drafts and other archive materials, such as correspondence, diaries and notes. The collection also contains materials from music associations and publishers as well as music researchers.

The Manuscript Collection has approx. 500 music archives. Materials cover several centuries but the focus is on the art music of the 20th century.

The most renowned archive creators include Jean Sibelius, Oskar Merikanto, Armas Launis, Fredrik Pacius and Einojuhani Rautavaara, but there are also archives from associations such as Sulasol, Muntra Musikanter and Musiikki-Fazer.
