Finnish websites and other Finnish publicly available online materials are collected and archived in the National Collection.
Collection description
Finnish websites and other Finnish publicly available online materials are collected and archived in the National Collection. In addition, statutorily submitted electronic materials, such as e-books and e-magazines as well as digital official publications, maps, music recordings and sheet music publications are deposited in the collection. Finnish online materials have been collected since 2006 and e-publications (electronic legal deposit copies) since 2008.
Both the materials collected and submitted to the National Collection are available for customers at legal deposit copy workstations, which, in addition to the National Library of Finland, can be found in other Finnish legal deposit libraries, the Library of Parliament and the National Audiovisual Archive.

Acquisition policy
Collection and archival of born digital materials is based on the Act on Collecting and Preserving Cultural Materials (Laki kulttuuriaineistojen tallettamisesta ja säilyttämisestä 1433/2007), http://www.finlex.fi/fi/laki/alkup/2007/20071433. Materials freely available online are collected both automatically with collection software annually and thematic collection focusing on a certain theme. The National Library of Finland may also ask an online publisher to submit materials if their automatic collection is impossible. In this case, the online materials will be received as submitted from the online publisher or material distributor.
