545 ## ‡a Carl Enckell (1876-1959) syntyi Pietarissa ja valmistui diplomi-insinööriksi Dresdenistä v. 1902. Autonomian ajalla Enckell työskenteli mm. Hietalahden laivatelakalla ja Kone Oy:n toimitusjohtajana. Suomen ulkoasiainministeri hän oli vuosina 1918-19, 1922 ja 1924. Enckellin yksityistä karttakokoelmaa pidettiin vielä 1940-luvulla Pohjoismaiden huomattavimpana. Siihen kuului 500-600 karttaa Suomesta ja Pohjolasta. Näiden karttojen perusteella ministeri Enckell julkaisi lukuisia tutkielmia Suomen rajoista.
